ASEAN artists have the talent and drive to be successful as international artists. Opportunities and finance for music focused artists in all genres are far less in today’s ASEAN scene compared to acts that have a bigger dance and visual component. There should be space for everyone. The numbers also show that music focused artists such as Ed Sheeran, Adele and Taylor Swift can provide great business opportunities. AXEAN Festival is a rare showcase for the new music artists. From those who experiment in a bedroom to those who work with orchestras. After 30 years in this business, I know the core reason why the US and UK are so successful is because of the communities, facilities and opportunities at the grass roots level. AXEAN is the beginning of allowing our young artists to cross borders and language without and limitation.

Music business is a people business and it’s very hard for undiscovered acts to start and it really needs a tough learning curve. AXEAN provides artists a platform to directly meet and showcase their work of art to the decision makers over the weekend, it helps artist and also delegates to build [their] network. What I really like about AXEAN is when I make music alone – it feels very lonely, but here in the festival provides such a fun, energetic environment to work with – it reminds me to enjoy the process and trust the process even more.
