Muri

Muri, aka Muriel Gonzales, is a musician from Manila, Philippines. Her music touches on themes from finding steadfastness and meaning amidst change and uncertainty, as she gains her voice in the chaos of all things in flux, connecting to what’s around her while at times relating to nothing at all. As a violinist and singer-songwriter she brings her unique craft to her songwriting, fusing soulful melodies and violin swells to create an emotive listening experience. Providing a soundtrack for those undergoing transitions, Muri hopes her music will help listeners rediscover their unique identities and personal journeys.

Her latest single “Rêve-toi” narrates breaking free of the illusions you have of yourself and of the world in general. The songwriter shares, “It’s about learning to be OK being in the in-between. It’s about looking up, discovering hope and finding you can dream again. Personally I was affected by undergoing a lot of change and transitions. Where I faced the reality of letting go of certain things, certain narratives. And only in accepting that, learned that I could rebuild myself. I’ve moved homes and really felt I lost my sense of anchor, sense of purpose, and essence of who I am.”

Sonically, “Rêve-toi” intertwines soul-infused vocals with iridescent synths and driving, upbeat percussion, delivering an uplifting and encouraging anthem that Muri hopes will resonate with people who are seeking new horizons. Muri is set to release her debut EP later this year.
