Les Escales Festival
Artistic Director
I am the Artistic Director of the Les Escales Festival since April 2000.
Rooted in the curiosity for world cultures, the programming of the Les Escales festival is open to various current musical aesthetics.
In addition to programming French and European artists of varying notoriety, the DNA of our event has always been built on the curiosity to invite the emerging music scene from the four corners of the globe.
To construct this international artistic programming, I rely on the support of international festivals established on the five continents, sharing common values with those of Les Escales.
Every year, under the name GLOBE-TROTTER, I invite an unprecedented artistic lineup of around ten musicians, bands, or DJs. The associated festival leaders sponsor the selected artists.
More than just an invitation for a few concerts, significant exchanges take place here, often leading to new development trajectories for these new artists in France and Europe.
It is in the current musical landscape of these different countries, in their most contemporary sounds, that I strive to showcase after rigorous prospecting
The programming also serves as a foundation for the development of cultural activities carried out throughout the year with the 8,000 primary school children of Saint-Nazaire, to program artists for the elderly, to work alongside middle and high school students in the Nazaire area, and to develop projects with people with disabilities.
In parallel with the invitation of musicians, a graffiti artist/muralist from one of the invited countries is invited to create a monumental painting on a building wall in the city.
CONTACT
COMPANY / EVENT
The Les Escales festival has existed since 1992 (32 years old) taking place annually from Friday to Sunday, on the last weekend of July. The festival is held on an exceptional site on the city’s port, an urban island between the ocean, industrial basins and the banks of the Loire.
Each year, the festival is preceded by 2 days of Warm Up Escales in the city’s bars with between 45,000 to 50,000 festival-goers; 35 bands or DJs programmed; and 50 concerts over the 3 days of the festival.
In addition, the festival is involved in actions in favor of environmental respect (A Greener Future)
