COMPANY / EVENT
Freshmusic is a Singapore-based music review site which has been around for over 18 years and has been regarded by some as the Chinese version of Pitchfork (but in a smaller capacity)
The platform features reviews and interviews focusing on ethnic Chinese artists’ works globally and we aim to provide a fair space that promotes all the great music, regardless whether it’s mainstream or indie. With around 70% of its readers based in Taiwan, 20% from Singapore and Malaysia, Freshmusic is a good start for musicians wanting to reach out to audience in the above markets.
The signature annual event is the Freshmusic Awards which is now in its 17th edition and despite not having any big sponsors and no large scale ceremony shows, it’s regarded by the Chinese music industry as one of the key music awards, where the major and indie labels would look upon, and avid music fans seeking to find interesting nominees that they have missed out.
Freshmusic is currently run by a team of four, in which all of them have their day time jobs in various industries. We are exploring future possibilities in engaging more SEA artists and helping them to understand the Taiwan and Singapore market better.
